Coffee zoom is a new way to schedule virtual coffee meetings. These casual sessions can be scheduled with just one person, or with a group of people who may not already know each other.
A small 2020 study shows that a virtual coffee break can help make coworkers feel happier and more engaged. It also gives people a chance to connect with each other on an intimate level, something they might not have experienced in their office setting.
If you’re looking to use coffee zoom for the first time, here are some things to know:
1. Be considerate of others by not hogging all the talking.
2. Limit yourself to one or two cups of coffee during a Zoom call, and be sure to mute your microphone if you’re drinking from a loud mug.
3. Follow proper Zoom etiquette to avoid distractions and to ensure the best possible experience for your coworkers.
4. Get familiar with Zoom’s keyboard shortcuts:
You can invite people to meetings quickly and easily, or send them an email. In addition to the default shortcuts, you can create your own by clicking “i” and putting your mouse on a command.
5. Set Zoom to Focus Mode:
To make a Zoom meeting more focused, you can turn on a new feature called Focus Mode. It enables hosts to hide participants’ video, so they only see the host’s and co-host’s screens, along with the content they share.
The option is particularly helpful if you’re teaching online and want your students to fully engage in the conversation, without worrying about accidentally being recorded or livestreamed. You can enable Focus Mode on any of your meetings in the full settings page for Zoom.
