Coffee Enema Kit – A Meta-Analysis

Enema Kit

A coffee enema is a type of colon cleanse used to stimulate the liver and gallbladder to detoxify the body. It has been around for over 150 years and is believed to help rid the colon of toxins. The coffee enema is also thought to promote bowel movements and is commonly used to treat constipation.

While the idea behind a coffee enema sounds simple enough, there are some things to consider before attempting a coffee enema. The first step is to make sure that the enema bucket, tubes and insertion tip are clean. Wash all three with warm soapy water and rinse them completely. Then pour a solution made of purified water and finely ground enema coffee into the suppository tube.

Once the solution is in the colon, it should feel smooth and comfortable. If it is too painful, add more enema coffee to the tube and try again. The enema should be left in for at least 15 minutes. It is best to perform it in a private bathroom where you can lay back and relax.

This systematic review included a meta-analysis of case reports on self-administered coffee enemas for various biomedical indications. Relevant studies were retrieved from the databases Ovid MEDLINE, Ovid Embase and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials. Furthermore, oriental databases were searched (Korean Medical Database, Korean Studies Information Service System and National Discovery for Science Leaders). Data on biomedical indicators and patient-reported outcomes were collected.
