The latest in coffee shop openings and reopenings.
Getting work done isn’t the top of the list of things to do on Arthur Avenue in Little Italy, but with more than 50 different coffee drinks, bialy egg sandwiches and 7am-11pm hours every day, Prince Coffee House (formerly Cafe Ynez) makes it just a little bit easier. It’s the first US flagship venue for the storied Danish roaster, which is slated to open a dedicated roastery in Bushwick later this year. In the meantime, this sleek space serves Loveless coffees and a small menu of sandwiches and cakes. It’s a nice change that other local restaurants and cafes aren’t phoning it in on the coffee side too, with the likes of Postcard (by the owners of next door Japanese restaurant Nami Nori) choosing specialty roaster Coffee Project NY, and Greenpoint’s Kettl adding to their selection. Design-forward Dayglow rolled in from LA this year and is the most serious of the new wave of multi-roaster cafes. The space is stocked with pretty design touches and offers a compact menu of breakfast items, baked goods (including bread from nearby Balthazar), non-cooked daytime food and a green bean corner that lets you purchase and roast beans in minutes. At night they become Niteglow and serve cocktails as well.
